A TAROM Romanian Air Transport Airbus A318-100, registration YR-ASC performing flight RO-263 from Bucharest Otopeni (Romania) to Istanbul Ataturk (Turkey), was descending towards Istanbul when the aircraft was struck by lightning. The crew continued for a safe landing on Ataturk Airport's runway 05.

The return flight RO-264 was cancelled.

The incident aircraft however departed Istanbul as flight RO-264 on Jan 13th at 01:40L (Jan 12th 23:40Z) and reached Bucharest with a delay of 6.5 hours, but remained on the ground thereafter so far.

The airline confirmed the return flight was cancelled because the aircraft was struck by lightning while descending towards Istanbul and received minor damage. The 82 passengers booked onto the return flight were rebooked onto other flights, some on the same day, others were taken to hotels and rebooked onto other flights the following day.
