A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration N703DN was dispatched to Ascension Island as flight DAL-9978 and reached Atlanta as flight DL-201A at 02:28L (07:28Z) with a delay of 20.5 hours.
A passenger reported the crew announced a technical problem with an engine, the aircraft dumped fuel while diverting to the British Air Force Base at coordinates S7.969444 W14.393611 in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean.
Flightaware currently shows another flight DL-201 on arrival (or having arrived) from Ascension Island, this aircraft however was N208DN arriving from Johannesburg on the regular flight DL-201 of Jan 10th, not arriving from Ascension Island.
