An Aeroflot Ilyushin IL-96, registration RA-96008 performing flight SU-2760 from Moscow Sheremetyevo (Russia) to Salzburg (Austria) with 267 people on board, was enroute when the crew received an engine chip detector indication for engine #3 (PS90, inboard right hand) with all other engine parameters remaining normal. The crew decided to shut down the engine and continue the flight to Salzburg for a safe landing on runway 15.

Rosaviatsia reported that a postflight examination revealed metal shavings in the engine oil indeed.

The return flight SU-2761 was postponed to the next day. The incident aircraft was able to depart Salzburg with a delay of 21 hours and reached Moscow at FL290 all the way with a delay of 20:45 hours.

According to the flight plan the return flight SU-2761 was conducted on three of the four engines. The flight plan stated that one engine was out and the flight operated under minimum equipment list requirements, the requested flight level was FL290.
