The crew subsequently declared Mayday reporting they had a right hand engine compressor stall and needed to return to Miami. The aircraft landed safely on Miami's runway 09 about 23 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the right hand engine emitted sparks and bangs, the flight crew announced they had suffered a compressor stall.
