An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N342AN performing flight AA-64 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Zurich (Switzerland), was enroute at FL270, waiting to be cleared for higher, about 70nm south of Boston,MA (USA) when the crew advised they probably needed to return to New York at about 19:35L (00:35Z Dec 27th) later adding they had a flight attendant with an injury to her hand. After the crew took their decision to return, they declared emergency and requested an ambulance to receive the aircraft at the gate. The aircraft landed safely back at New York about 50 minutes later, the flight attendant was taken to a hospital.

The aircraft departed again after about 2.5 hours and reached Zurich with a delay of 4 hours.

The FAA confirmed a flight attendant received a minor injury to her hand, no reason for the injury was stated.
