Transavia B738 near Athens on Jul 18th 2022, unuusal sounds and burning odour on board

A Transavia Boeing 737-800, registration PH-HXA performing flight HV-5908 from Heraklion (Greece) to Eindhoven (Netherlands), was levelling off at cruise level 380 when passengers and cabin crew noticed an unusual humming sound on board. A short time later a smell of burning electrical wires was detected within the cabin, no smoke was observed, the source of noise and odour could not be identified. The flight crew declared PAN PAN about 100nm northwest of Athens, turned around and diverted the aircraft to Athens, where the aircraft landed safely on runway 03L about 20 minutes after the decision to divert.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration PH-HXM positioned from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Athens climbing up to FL410, continued the flight not climbing above FL280 and reached Eindhoven with a delay of about 7.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Athens for about 24 hours, then positioned to Amsterdam maintaining a maximum FL240, remained on the ground in Amsterdam for another 17 hours before returning to service.

PH-HXM resumed service the following morning after about 6 hours on the ground and climbed to FL370 during the next flight.
