An Emirates Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration A6-EDY performing flight EK-201 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 509 people on board, was on final approach to New York's runway 22L descending through 900 feet, when the crew decided to go around reporting a technical issue and requested to enter a hold for 5 minutes to work the checklists and calculate the landing distance. The crew later added they had an issue with the brakes, degraded braking performance, and requested runway 31L, due to winds approach control offered a VOR approach runway 13R reporting winds from 130 degrees at 10 knots. The aircraft landed safely on runway 13R with emergency services on stand by about 30 minutes after aborting the first approach.
