A Westjet Boeing 737-8 MAX, registration C-GZSG performing flight WS-717 from Toronto,ON to Vancouver,BC (Canada) with 171 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL340 over Lake Superior when the crew received an "OIL FILTER BYPASS" indication for the left hand engine (LEAP). The crew worked the related checklist, shut the engine down and diverted to Thunder Bay,ON for a safe single engine landing on runway 07 about 40 minutes after leaving FL340.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance "replaced the No. 1 engine oil-filter cartridge and engine driven oil pump. The scavenge oil screens were inspected and the oil system was flushed. Oil samples were collected and sent for analysis. The accessory gearbox was inspected with nil defects noted. The aircraft was released for service after satisfactory ground runs were completed."
