An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N996AN performing flight AA-818 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) to Cancun (Mexico) with 167 people on board, was enroute at FL330 about 40nm northwest of Houston,TX (USA) when the crew decided to return to Dallas Ft. Worth due to an engine (V2533) problem, initially descending to FL300 for the return. The aircraft subsequently drifted down to FL240 and requested runway 17C. ATC offered runway 17R which was accepted by the crew. The aircraft landed safely on Dallas Ft. Worth's runway 17R about 65 minutes after departure.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Dallas about 28 hours after landing.
