A United Boeing 737-800, registration N77538 performing flight UA-1832 from Cancun (Mexico) to Houston Intercontinental,TX (USA), was enroute at FL380 about 400nm southsoutheast of New Orleans,LA (USA) when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (CFM56) down. The aircraft drifted down to FL240 and diverted to New Orleans for a safe landing on New Orleans' runway 11 about 100 minutes after leaving FL380.
