An Smartwings Boeing 737-800 on behalf of Air Transat, registration OK-TVW performing local flight TS-16 from Hamilton,ON to Hamilton,ON (Canada), had climbed to 4000 feet and was instructed to maintain 4000 feet and proceed to waypoint KEBDU about 11nm southeast of Hamilton when a conflict arose between the Boeing and a Cessna 172 on a training flight. The Boeing crew received and followed a TCAS resolution advisory ignoring ATC instructions. The two aircraft became clear of conflict as result of the TCAS RA. Both Cessna and Boeing continued for a safe landings at their destinations.

Almost a year later Canada's TSB reported referencing the Boeing: "The aircraft was instructed to maintain 4000 feet and proceed to KEBDU, a waypoint located approximately 11 NM southeast of CYHM. ATC notified TSC016 of VFR traffic over KEBDU at 3600 feet. The conflicting traffic was a Cessna 172M doing flight training. ATC instructed TSC016 to descend to 3000 feet. At this point TSC016 was 6.3 miles from the Cessna on an approximately reciprocal course with a closure rate of 320 knots. ATC issued TSC016 a right turn to avoid traffic and facilitate the approach. Shortly after ATC advised TSC016 that it didn't appear they were turning. TSC016 advised they were responding to a TCAS Resolution Advisory (RA) of a VFR aircraft located abeam them. TSC016 passed abeam the Cessna with a spacing of 0.7 miles at the point of closest approach. TSC016 was at 3500 feet heading southbound and the Cessna was descending through 3100 feet heading northwest bound. Both aircraft landed without further incident."

The Boeing had been leased by Air Transat on Feb 1st 2020, arrived in Canada flying Prague (Czech Republic) - Keflavik (Iceland) - Toronto,ON (Canada) on Feb 1st 2020 and positioned to Hamilton on Feb 3rd 2020. The lease ended on March 25th 2020.
