A Thai Lion Air Boeing 737-900, registration HS-LTL performing flight SL-180 from Bangkok Don Muang (Thailand) to Hanoi (Vietnam), had landed on Hanoi's runway 11L, vacated the runway via taxiway S2 and was instructed to hold short runway 11R.

A Vietnam Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration VN-A390 performing flight VN-1233 from Hanoi to Phu Cuoc (Vietnam), had been cleared for takeoff from runway 11R and was accelerating for takeoff, when the crew noticed the Thai Lion Boeing 737 had crossed the hold short line towards runway 11R and decided to reject takeoff at about 150 KIAS (V1 166 KIAS). The aircraft slowed safely, vacated the runway via taxiway S4 about 917 meters/3000 feet short of taxiway S2 and remained stationary for about 35 minutes to cool the brakes. The aircraft subsequently departed for the flight.
