A Rossiya Airbus A319-100, registration VQ-BAR performing flight FV-6323 from St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad (Russia), departed St. Petersburg's runway 28R when the aircraft flew through a flock of seagulls and received a number of bird strikes followed by a sharp increase of the vibrations of both left and right hand engines (CFM56), a burning odour developed on board. The crew stopped the climb at 1000 meters and returned to St. Petersburg for a safe landing on runway 28L about 12 minutes after departure.

Rosaviatsia reported a post flight inspection revealed both engines had ingested birds, both engines had several fan blades damaged, in addition the outboard flap of the left hand wing received damage. A runway inspection recovered remains of several birds.
