A Fly540 de Havilland Dash 8-300, registration 5Y-CGH performing a charter flight from Lokichar to Nairobi Wilson (Kenya) with 49 oil workers and 5 crew, was climbing out of Lokichar when an engine (PW123) failed prompting the crew to return to Lokichar. Upon landing about 5-10 minutes after departure the aircraft veered off the dirt runway and came to a stop off the runway. There were no injuries, the aircraft did not sustain visible damage.

The airline reported the engine failed as result of hitting a foreign object.

The aircraft had been enroute from Lodwar (Kenya) to Nairobi Wilson but had divered to Lokichar airfield earlier and was about to continue the flight, when the engine failed.

Lokichar Airstrip is located at N2.3885 E35.6479 and features 1100 meters of dirt runway in orientation of about 09/27.
