An ASL Airlines France Boeing 737-700, registration F-GZTP performing flight 5O-245 from Jersey,CI (UK) to Funchal (Portugal), was on approach to Funchal's runway 05 when the crew performed a go around from about 1000 feet AGL due to problems with the flaps. The aircraft climbed to 4000 feet and entered a hold while the crew was working the checklists and prepared the aircraft and cabin for a landing with an abnormal flap setting. The aircraft landed safely on runway 05 at a higher than normal speed about 30 minutes after the go around.

The occurrence aircraft reained on the ground in Madeira for about 10.5 hours before departing for the return flight.
