Passengers reported the crew indicated smoke in the cargo hold initially and discharged fire suppression there, then smoke developed in the cabin, flight attendants donned their smoke hoods.
The airline reported the crew declared emergency about 20 minutes prior to landing due to smoke in the cargo hold and cabin. It was subsequently determined that a seal in the left hand engine (PW1133G) had failed permitting oil to leak onto hot parts of the engine and air conditioning system. The performence of the engine was not affected. Emergency services assisted in an emergency evacuation. Seven passengers were taken to hospitals with smoke related symptoms. There were 184 passengers and 7 crew on board.
The FAA reported the crew declared emergency reporting a fire in the cargo hold and smoke in the cockpit. There were 185 passengers and 7 crew on board, 6 passengers received minor injuries.
