A Yan Air Boeing 737-400 on behalf of Smartwigns, registration UR-CNP performing flight 7O-5298 from Budapest (Hungary) to Hurghada (Egypt) with 151 passengers and 9 crew, was enroute at FL330 about 40nm southwest of Plovdiv (Bulgaria) when the crew decided to return to Budapest upon being informed about possible tyre/gear damage. The aircraft descended to FL320 for the return and landed safely on Budapest's runway 31R about 90 minutes after the decision to turn around. Emergency services checked the aircraft and reported both right main tyres/wheels damaged. Tower instructed the crew to shut the aircraft down on the runway.

The airline reported the aircraft's landing gear was damaged.

On Aug 15th 2019 Ukraine's NBAAI reported the occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated by Hungary's KBSZ. On departure from Budapest the aircraft blew one tyre on the right main gear. When the aircraft was enroute over Romania ATC informed the crew, already in the airspace of Bulgaria the crew decided to return to Budapest. Upon touchdown at Budapest the second right main tyre burst. Ukraine's NBAAI joined the investigation led by Hungary.

On Jun 2nd 2022 Hungary's KBSZ reported the occurrence was now rated an incident and the investigation was terminated without report. A cause of the tyre damage during the takeoff could not be determined.
