An Austrian Airlines Embraer ERJ-195, registration OE-LWJ performing flight OS-521 from Vienna (Austria) to Venice (Italy), was enroute at FL320 about 130nm southsouthwest of Vienna, about to enter Slovenian Airspace, when the crew decided to turn around and return to Vienna. The aircraft landed safely back in Vienna about 50 minutes after departure.

A replacement A320-200 registration OE-LBM reached Venice with a delay of 2.5 hours.

The airline told Austrianwings the return was prompted by a technical problem with the fuel quantity indicators. As no Embraer maintenance staff was available in Venice, the crew opted to return to Vienna in consultation with Austrian's Maintenance Department. The occurrence aircraft underwent extensive technical assessment in Vienna and was able to return to service the same day.

OE-LWJ remained on the ground in Vienna for about 5 hours before returning to service.
