Passengers reported there was a flash and a bang from the left hand side of the aircraft, subsequently smoke appeared in the cabin. The aircraft was received by emergency services who found something leaking from the aircraft.

The airline reported a technical fault in one of the engines requiring the shut down of the engine, the aircraft diverted to Birmingham. The passengers are being rebooked onto alternative flights.

In the late evening the airline added, that the engine fault caused an oil leak which led to a small amount of smoke becoming visible in the cabin. The flight crew took the recommended actions and landed safely in Birmingham. There was "no adverse reaction in the cabin and the crew's actions have been praised by passengers, who were on board."
