A Vulkan Air Antonov AN-26B, registration UR-CQD performing flight VKA-143 from Tangier (Morocco) to Rome Fiumicino (Italy), was enroute at FL180 over the Mediterranean Sea nearing Alghero (Italy) when radio communication with the aircraft was lost. Italian Air Force scrambled two Eurofighter aircraft to intercept the AN-26, the fighter pilots established there was no emergency situation and accompanied the AN-26 to Rome until the AN-26 began its approach to Fiumicino Airport. The AN-26 completed the flight with a safe landing, the Eurofighters returned to their base without incident.
