Iberia A346 at Quito on Aug 11th 2018, balked landing and tyre damage

An Iberia Airbus A340-600, registration EC-LEU performing flight IB-6453 from Madrid,SP (Spain) to Quito (Ecuador), touched down on Quito's runway 18 when the crew initiated a go around. The aircraft entered a hold for about 20 minutes, positioned for another approach to runway 18 and landed about 30 minutes after the go around. One of the body gear tyres was found blown after landing.

Sources in Latin America claim the tyre was blown during the first approach prompting the crew to reject the landing.

The return flight was cancelled.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Quito on Aug 24h 2018 about 13 days after landing.

On Aug 24th 2018 Ecuador's Civil Aviation Authority reported the aircraft suffered the blow out of the #10 tyre on the body gear, apparently while making a hard landing. The crew immediately initiated a go around and subsequently landed without further incident. About 75% of the tyre tread had detached, there was hydraulic fluid leaking from the brakes of the aft wheels of the body gear. The occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated.
