An Air Berlin Airbus A320-200, registration D-ABFF performing flight AB-3222 from Osnabruck/Muenster (Germany) to Antalya (Turkey), had just become airborne from Osnabruck/Muenster's runway 25 when the left hand engine ingested a bird, possibly a hawk. The crew levelled off at FL110 and diverted to Dusseldorf (Germany) for a safe landing on runway 23L about 30 minutes after departure.

A replacement A320-200 registration D-ABFN reached Antalya with a delay of 6:20 hours.

The incident aircraft resumed service after 22 hours on the ground in Dusseldorf.

A passenger reported the captain announced they had a bird strike at the left hand side. Following landing in Dusseldorf and inspection of the engines the captain announced that obviously a hawk had gone through the left hand engine resulting in engine vibrations due to a stuck vane that loosened again as result of the vibrations and thus the vibrations ceased in flight (attempting to describe that fan blade mid span shrouds had shingled and unshingled again). The engine needed a borescopic inspection.
