A Sunwing Boeing 737-800, registration C-FFPH performing flight BY-5483 from Paphos (Cyprus) to Norwich,EN (UK), was enroute at FL360 about 110nm northwest of Sofia (Bulgaria) when the crew decided to divert to Sofia due to smell of smoke on board. The aircraft landed safely on Sofia's runway 27 about 30 minutes later.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Sofia for about 23 hours, then continued the flight and reached Norwich with a delay of 24 hours.

On Jun 28th 2018 the Canadian TSB reported an electrical odour had been detected in the cabin near seat rows 2-4. The flight crew diverted to Sofia as a precaution. Maintenance carried out an inspection, found no faults and returned the aircraft to service.
