An ANZ Air New Zealand Boeing 787-900, registration ZK-NZG performing flight NZ-281 from Singapore (Singapore) to Auckland (New Zealand) with 202 passengers, was enroute at FL370 about 240nm northeast of Jakarta (Indonesia) when the crew decided to return to Singapore due to an engine (Trent 1000) oil problem. The aircraft turned around, drifted down to FL220 and landed safely back in Singapore about 90 minutes after the decision to return to Singapore.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Singapore for about 28 hours, then departed again as flight NZ-281D and is estimated to reach Auckland with a delay of about 31 hours.

The airline reported engineering found an issue with the oil system of one of the engines and resolved the issue.
