A Fedex Federal Express McDonnell Douglas MD-11, registration N585FE performing flight FX-9792 from Memphis,TN (USA) to Cologne (Germany) with 2 crew, was enroute at FL370 about 120nm northwest of Newark,NJ (USA) when the crew reported a fuel leak and decided to divert to Newark advising they probably would shut the runway down to clean up the fuel leak. The airport advised other traffic that they might be forced to completely shut down due to an incoming emergency aircraft. The MD-11 landed safely on Newark's runway 04R about 25 minutes after leaving FL370 and stopped on the runway, emergency services reported seeing a lot of fuel being released from the aircraft. Runway 04R was closed, runway 04L remained available and open for operations.
