A Blue Air Boeing 737-800, registration YR-BMH performing flight 0B-169 from Bucharest Otopeni (Romania) to Tel Aviv (Israel), was climbing out of Bucharest's runway 26L when the crew requested to stop the climb at FL170 due to a technical issue. The crew subsequently decided to return to Otopeni Airport advising of a technical problem, no emergency or urgency was declared and no assitance on the ground was requested. On approach the crew advised they were having a hydraulic failure. The aircraft landed safely back on Otopeni's runway 26L about 40 minutes after departure.

Passengers reported the crew announced some suspicious smoke was coming from the left hand engine (CFM56), they were returning to Bucharest (this passenger report triggered Israeli media reports of an engine fire).

According to boardingpass.ro the aircraft was observed leaking hydraulic fluid from the left hand engine while taxiing in and stopping at the stand.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration YR-BMN reached Tel Aviv with a delay of 4:45 hours.
