A Peruvian Airlines Boeing 737-500, registration OB-2140P performing flight P9-211 from Lima to Cuzco (Peru) with 94 passengers and 5 crew, had climbed out of Lima and levelled off at FL370 when the right hand engine (CFM56) shut down in flight without command. The crew declared emergency and initiated the return to Lima. During the descent the crew attempted to restart the engine, the third restart attempt succeeded. The aircraft landed safely back in Lima with both engines operating normally about 50 minutes after departure.

Peru's Comision de Investigacion de Accidentes de Aviacion (CIAA) opened an investigation into the occurrence.
