A Garuda Indonesia Airbus A330-200, registration PK-GPM performing flight GA-863 from Hong Kong (China) to Jakarta (Indonesia), was enroute at FL340 about 200nm south of Hong Kong when the captain fell unconscious. The first officer took control of the aircraft and decided to return to Hong Kong. A company pilot travelling as passenger was called to the cockpit to assist the first officer for the return. The aircraft landed safely back on Hong Kong's runway 07R about 53 minutes after departure, the captain was taken to a hospital.

Indonsia's NTSC rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation.
