A LATAM Brasil Airbus A321-200, registration PT-MXJ performing flight JJ-4730 from Sao Luiz,MA to Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP (Brazil), was in the initial climb out of Sao Luiz's runway 06 when an engine (V2533) emitted two loud bangs prompting the crew to stop the climb at 4000 feet and returned to Sao Luiz for a safe landing on runway 06 about 25 minutes after departure.

The airline reported the aircraft returned to Sao Luiz for corrective maintenance. A replacement aircraft took the passengers to Sao Paulo as flight JJ-9000.

A replacement A320-200 registration PR-MYJ departed the following morning and reached Sao Paulo with a delay of 17 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Sao Luiz about 72 hours after landing back.
