An Air Canada Airbus A320-200, registration C-FGYS performing flight AC-146 from Calgary,AB to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 117 passengers and 5 crew, was climbing out of Calgary when the crew reported a right hand engine (CFM56) failure, stopped the climb at 6000 feet, shut the engine down and returned to Calgary for a safe landing about 25 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported the crew received indication the right hand engine's thrust reverser failed to lock. The crew worked the related ECAM procedures, secured the engine via a precautionary engine shut down due to a mild airframe buffeting. The crew declared PAN and performed an uneventful overweight landing. The aircraft was met by emergency services and taxied to the gate.
