A Vueling Airbus A320-200, registration EC-MBF performing flight VY-6598 from Tenerife South,CI to Zurich (Switzerland), was in the initial climb out of Tenerife's runway 07, when the left hand engine emitted loud bangs and streaks of flame prompting the crew to level off at 2000 feet, shut the engine down and return to Tenerife for a safe landing on runway 08 about 25 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the aircraft was airborne for about 30 seconds when two loud bangs occurred, flashes could be seen from the left hand side. The aircraft levelled off, the crew announced there had been a problem with one of the engines.

The airline told a passenger, the flight was cancelled, he should contact ground staff to rebook the flight.
