A Lufthansa Cityline Embraer ERJ-190, registration D-AECG performing flight LH-936 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to London City,EN (UK) with about 30 people on board, was descending towards London about 90nm east of London when the crew stopped the descent at FL220 due to a hydraulic failure and decided to return to Frankfurt. The aircraft climbed to FL240 for the return and landed safely in Frankfurt about 65 minutes after stopping the descent.

A passenger reported they were descending over the Channel when a flight attendant announced they were returning to Frankfurt due to a technical problem. About 15 minutes later the flight attendant announced that the landing would become difficult and requested passengers to strictly adhere to the emergency instructions that she was reiterating. The flight attendant subsequently advised they were having a serious hydraulic failure. The flight attendant instructed some passenger of how to open the front doors and release the chute in case of the flight attendants becoming incapacitated hinting it was possible the aircraft would not stop in time on landing. Upon landing the passengers were instructed to brace. The crew were able to stop the aircraft on the runway.
