A Sunwing Boeing 737-800 on behalf of TUI Airlines Nederland, registration C-FYLC performing flight OR-384 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Rhodes (Greece), was climbing out of Amsterdam's runway 18L when the aircraft was struck by lightning prompting the crew to stop the climb at FL100, burn off fuel at FL090 and return to Amsterdam for a safe landing on runway 18R about 50 minutes after departure.

A replacement Tui Airlines Nederland Boeing 737-800 registration PH-TFB reached Rhodes with a delay of 6 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 26 hours then returned to service.
