A Eurolot de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration SP-EQB performing flight LO-3815 from Warsaw to Gdansk (Poland) with 82 people on board, was in the flare for landing on Gdansks's runway 11 at 17:57L (15:57Z) when a gust caused the aircraft to touch down hard on the runway. The aircraft rolled out without further incident and taxied to the apron. A passenger needed to be taken to hospital. The damage to the aircraft is being assessed.

The airport reported the aircraft was in the flare when a gust caused the sudden loss of lift, the aircraft fell down onto the runway. A female passenger was taken to hospital. Contrary to some media reports in Poland there was no tail strike.

The occurrence aircraft resumed service about 39 hours after landing.

On Oct 18th 2016 Poland's PKBWL reported the aircraft suffered a hard landing, vertical acceleration +2.4G, including the tail of the aircraft contacting the runway surface following a VOR/DME approach to Gdansk's runway 11 at maximum landing weight, the CWP panel indicated a tail strike. A following inspection showed the tail sensor had scraped the runway surface and received damage. The captain reported that during flare there was a gust which was countered with immediate power increase, however, the aircraft began to sink forcing the crew to increase the pitch. An additional factor was additional work load in order to protect a passenger which had become ill on board. The occurrence was rated an incident and is being investigated by PKWBL.
