A Virgin Australia Boeing 737-800, registration VH-YIU performing flight VA-120 from Brisbane,QL (Australia) to Dunedin (New Zealand), was on approach to Dunedin (longest runway 1900 meters/6230 feet) when the crew aborted the approach due to problems with the flaps. The crew subsequently decided to divert to Christchurch (New Zealand), where the aircraft performed a safe high speed landing (speed over ground at touch down 190 knots) on runway 20 (length 3288 meters/10780 feet).

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 10 hours, then departed for flight VA-133 to Sydney,NS (Australia).

The airline reported the aircraft diverted to Christchurch for an "engineering issue".

The airline's website states, the return flight VA-123 from Dunedin to Brisbane is being delayed until next day for about 19.5 hours.
