A THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration TC-JRD performing flight TK-969 from Ercan (Cyprus) to Istanbul (Turkey), was descending towards Istanbul when the aircraft encountered hail causing damage to the windshield and the nose cone. The aircraft diverted to Canakkale (Turkey) for a safe landing on runway 04.

A supercell associated with a loss of 10 degrees C within an hour caused hail strike damage to a number of aircraft that evening.
