A Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N823DX performing flight DL-2380 from Jacksonville,FL to Atlanta,GA (USA), was climbing through 3000 feet out of Jacksonville's runway 08 when the aircraft flew through a flock of birds prompting the crew to stop the climb at 7000 feet and return to Jacksonville. On final approach the crew advised they felt quite comfortable, gear and flaps were out, both engines were running. The aircraft landed safely on runway 08 about 15 minutes after departure, the crew requested an inspection of the brakes after vacating the runway.

The airport reported there was some minor damage to engine (PW2037) fan blades, the engine never lost power however.

A replacement Boeing 737-900 registration N837DN reached Atlanta with a delay of 7:20 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service after 11.5 hours on the ground.
