A Mahan Airbus A340-300, registration EP-MMB performing flight W5-100 from Tehran Imam Khomeini (Iran) to Dusseldorf (Germany) with 81 passengers, landed on Dusseldorf's runway 05L but burst a total of 8 main tyres during the roll out and became disabled short of and near the end of the runway abeam taxiway K1.

The runway was closed, the passengers disembarked onto the runway via mobile stairs and were bussed to the terminal.

The airport reported a technical defect caused smoke from the landing gear during landing. Emergency services responded. The airport was closed for about 15 minutes as result of the occurrence, subsequently the southern runway was re-opened. The airport currently works all traffic via the southern runway with the north runway remaining closed until the aircraft can be towed off the runway.

According to information The Aviation Herald received tyre debris was not only spread onto runway 05L but also landed on runway 05R prompting the closure of both runways for about 10 minutes.

A replacement A340-600 registration EP-MMF is currently positioning to Dusseldorf as flight W5-100A and is estimated to perform the return flight.
