The aircraft remained on the ground for about 100 minutes, then departed again and reached Zurich with a delay of one hour 50 minutes.
Passengers reported a plume of smoke was rising, cabin crew discharged fire extinguishers onto the battery.
The airline reported the battery was transported separately from the mobile phone.
