An Air Niugini Fokker 100, registration P2-ANC performing flight PX-275 from Kavieng to Rabaul (Papua New Guinea), was climbing out of Kavieng when the crew reported smoke in the cockpit and decided to return to Kavieng. During landing a number of tyres deflated disabling the aircraft on the runway.

The runway needed to be closed for several hours until the aircraft could be removed from the runway.

On May 24th 2017 (local) the airline reported the aircraft returned to Kavieng due to a technical fault, one tyre deflated on landing as result of inbuilt safety mechanism.

According to information running within the airline smoke emanated from the Circuit Breaker Panel. The aircraft lost all electrics causing e.g. the anti-skid system to become inoperative, which further resulted in blown tyres during the landing roll.
