An Air India Airbus A320-200, registration VT-EXA performing flight AI-669 from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar (India) with 155 people on board, was climbing out of Mumbai's runway 32 when the crew stopped the climb at FL230 reporting smoke in the cockpit and returned to Mumbai for a safe landing on runway on runway 32 about 35 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A321-200 registration VT-PPK reached Bhubaneswar with a delay of 2.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground 12 hours after landing.
