A THY Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-900, registration TC-JYG performing flight TK-623 from Istanbul (Turkey) to Abuja (Nigeria), was climbing out of Istanbul's runway 35R when the crew stopped the climb at 7000 feet reporting they were unable to retract the landing gear. The aircraft entered a hold to burn off fuel and returned to Istanbul for a safe landing about 2:50 hours after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-900 registration TC-JYH is estimated to reach Abuja with a delay of about 6 hours.
