A Lufthansa Airbus A321-200, registration D-AISN performing flight LH-612 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Baku (Azerbaijan) with 161 passengers, had just reached the top of climb at FL310 when the crew decided to return to Frankfurt due to an indication concerning the landing gear. The aircraft entered a hold at FL100 to burn off fuel and landed safely in Frankfurt about 2 hours after departure.

A replacement A321-200 registration D-AISI reached Baku with a delay of 3:15 hours.

The airline reported the aircraft suffered some damage at the landing gear, the aircraft could have continued to Baku, however no spare parts would have been available in Baku.
