An Air France Boeing 777-300, registration F-GZNH performing flight AF-443 from Rio de Janeiro,RJ (Brazil) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (France), was enroute at FL330 about 140nm southsoutheast of Fortaleza,CE (Brazil) about 2:10 hours into the flight when the crew turned around, descended the aircraft to FL320 and returned to Rio de Janeiro. The aircraft subsequently descended to FL240 about 450nm north of Rio de Janeiro and landed safely back in Rio about 4:40 hours after departure.

A passenger reported the crew announced problems with the weather radar.

The airline confirmed the aircraft returned to Rio de Janeiro due to a faulty weather radar.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 20 hours, then flew to Paris as flight AF-4081 and reached Paris with a delay of 25 hours.
