A Thai Airways Boeing 787-800, registration HS-TQA performing flight TG-477 from Bangkok (Thailand) to Brisbane,QL (Australia), had departed Bangkok's runway 19L and was enroute at FL330 about 50nm southeast of Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) when the crew decided to return to Bangkok. The aircraft descended to FL320 for the return and landed safely back in Bangkok about 130 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 787-800 registration HS-TQD reached Brisbane with a delay of 4 hours.

A passenger reported early into the flight rythmic and recurring vibrations were quite noticeable. About an hour into the flight the aircraft returned to Bangkok, no information was provided by the flight crew. Cabin crew hinted however, that they suspected a bird strike on departure from Bangkok. The passenger observed another passenger, obviously a company maintenance engineer travelling as passenger, watching the right hand engine (Trent 1000) from the cabin windows and then spending a lot of time in the cockpit.
