India's DGCA opened an investigation into the occurrence which was rated a serious incident. The DGCA reported the crew did not declare emergency despite the engine shut down following a serious engine problem, Air Traffic Control Kolkata declared an emergency for the flight instead.
The airline reported the captain of the flight decided to divert to Kolkata as a precaution following a technical snag. Although the crew did not declare emergency, Kolkata ATC did declare full emergency for the flight on their own.
