A Thomson Airways Boeing 737-800, registration G-FDZB performing flight BY-6249 from Tenerife South,CI (Spain) to Bournemouth,EN (UK), was on approach to Bournemouth's runway 08 when the crew went around reporting a flaps issue. The aircraft entered a hold while the crew worked the checklists, then the crew requested runway 26 (which offers 132 meters/433 feet more landing distance available than runway 08) indicating they would need to perform a landing at a higher speed than normal and there was a tiny chance of an overrun. The aircraft landed on Bournemouth's runway 26 at a higher than normal speed (about 165 knots over ground) about 40 minutes after aborting the first approach. The aircraft was able to stop about 50 meters/165 feet short of the runway end.

Following a check by emergency services the aircraft backtracked the runway and taxied to the apron with emergency services in trail.

The airline reported a technical problem.

A number of passengers had already endured another emergency on their way to Tenerife, see Incident: Thomson B738 at Bournemouth on Jan 10th 2017, bird strike.
