A Jazz Canadair CRJ-705, registration C-GPJZ performing flight QK-8104 from Calgary,AB (Canada) to Houston Intercontinental,TX (USA), was enroute at FL370 over northern Wyoming (USA) when the aircraft lost 20 knots of airspeed while passing through a mountain wave. The crew applied go-around thrust, the aircraft however lost another 20 knots, the autopilot disconnected and the aircraft lost about 800 feet of altitude. The flight crew reported severe turbulence to ATC and requested a lower altitude. By the time ATC cleared the flight to a lower altitude the aircraft had already stabilized at FL370 again. The aircraft descended to FL350, then FL330 and continued to Houston for a safe landing about 140 minutes after the loss of speed.

The Canadian TSB reported the aircraft was removed from service pending a service inspection and flight data read out.
