A ANA All Nippon Airways Boeing 777-300, registration JA786A performing flight NH-204 (dep Dec 31st) from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Tokyo Haneda (Japan) with 147 people on board, was enroute at FL330 about 320nm northeast of Krasnojarsk (Russia) when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (GE90) down due to the failure of the engine. The aircraft drifted down to FL230, continued for another 250nm in the general direction towards Japan, turned around about 385nm north of Irkutsk (Russia) and about 470nm eastnortheast of Krasnojarsk and diverted to Krasnojarsk for a safe landing on runway 29 about 2 hours after leaving FL330.

A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration JA717A was dispatched from Tokyo Haneda to Krasnjoarsk, resumed the flight and reached Tokyo with a delay of 21 hours.

The airline confirmed on Jan 2nd 2017 the aircraft diverted to Krasnojarsk due to the failure of the right hand engine.
