A Qatar Airways Boeing 787-800, registration A7-BCC performing flight QR-817 from Hong Kong (China) to Doha (Qatar), was climbing out of Hong Kong's runway 07R when the crew stopped the climb at FL250 reporting a cracked windshield and decided to return to Hong Kong. The aircraft dumped fuel and landed safely back on Hong Kong's runway 07L about 105 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled.

A passenger reported the aircraft returned because of some bird related cockpit window issue.

The airport reported the crew suspected a bird strike on departure ultimately resulted in the cracked windshield.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground 34 hours after landing.
